Sustainability - The Kabin Company

SUSTAINABILITY

At The Kabin Company all our cabins are designed to celebrate local materials and skills.  That’s why we strive to operate as sustainably and locally as possible. We are a family run business based in East Meon, Hampshire. We source the majority of timber used in our cabin construction locally, and use a collection of locally based skilled millers, carpenters, fitters, welders and makers in the surrounding villages. We strive to make conscious choices on materials, processes and logistics so we can help make an impact towards a better future for all.

KABIN TIMBER

For the build and finishing we use local Hampshire timber merchants and timber yards, from Petersfield, Alresford, Waterlooville and the Bereleigh Estate farm.

This includes the structural timber, CLS, OSB, sawn treated timber and white ash used for finishing. The cedar wood is felled in East Meon Hampshire, and Milled in Warnford Hampshire.

The boards are milled, dried and then burnt with a gas poker and scratched with a wire brush to give a unique rustic finish.

External cladding has ranged from CO2 timber, shadow gap Siberian Larch and Douglas Fir.

AXLES AND WHEELS

The chassis are constructed on Marlands farm in West Meon, with the wheels coming from Northern Ireland.

KABIN INSULATION

We work with sustainable materials with maximum energy efficiency and partner with the industry leading supplier.
